Churches Together of Fulwood & Broughton Pilgrimage - September 1st 2001 Heysham is an ancient village on the shores of Morecambe Bay. Legend has it that St Patrick was shipwrecked here when coming to convert the north of England to Christianity. The ancient stone buildings on the headland are thought by some to be the remains of a monastery. One may well have been a very small chapel but it seems an inhospitable place for settlement. Perhaps it was a suitable landing place and these are the remains of a hospice for travellers. It certainly became a burial ground as there is evidence of many ancient graves.

The trip continued with a long stay in Morecambe and concluded with a splendid tea in Grange-over-Sands at a Methodist holiday centre on the other side of the bay.
