The Jubilee icon represents the cross super-imposed on a blue circle, the universe. The colours of the cross are repeated in the five doves representing the five continents. Christ, the light of the world, at the heart of the five continents, takes on our human condition. "God thus enters into human history and redeems it."
Several ladies of the parish met regularly to plan and then make this splendid antependium, which means in Latin it hangs in front of the altar. It combines the chosen themes of the Jubilee Year along with various symbols which are in regular use.
Top left hand corner - the crown signifying Mary Queen of Heaven, Maria Regina, the letters intertwined underneath being M and R.
Top right hand corner - a shield decorated with the cross surrounded by the five doves.
Lower left corner - a banner with a dove.Bottom centre - The church of Our Lady & St Edward's, "Jubilee 2000", and the entrance porch representing the Parish Centre.
