The
theme for January is usually white in keeping with the normal celebrations of this time, white for the garments worn by those being baptised, for water and for cleansing. White is also for the dove of peace. Each year a different theme is chosen which is intended to run throughout the year to come. |
|
This theme is repeated at the altar at Whitsun, 'White Sunday' for the white garments worn by the candidates for confirmation. White flowers also remind us of the water of baptism which has washed and cleansed us, and also of that first Pentecost when the Holy Spirit came like a mighty wind and empowered the apostles to set out out as God's messengers to the world. |
