Ruby CelebrationFr Bernard Woods 40 Years a Priest
7th March 2008
|
| No, not a Karaoke night! A little license with the noticeboard tells a truer story - this was the real event of the month at St Cuthbert's church in Blackpool. | |
In the 12 years that Fr Bernard was in our parish he was noted for his involvement in everything that went on, sacred or secular, while still, for much of the time, running the Catholic Caring Services for the Diocese. Terry Mattinson told us that in a couple of weeks Fr Bernard is off to Munich with the Youth of the Diocese for their regular Easter gathering which has been all over Europe over many years, from Finland to Italy.

Of course, Fr Bernard is rather more used to leaving candles alight - he's not used to blowing them out. It's just as well they weren't the bigger ones! |

The church was packed for Mass. Fr Bernard was the celebrant with Peter alongside him, 'like old times', but was joined by a number of other priests from the Diocese, including Fr Val Farrell and Mgr O'Dea who each gave short but very pertinent - and sometimes entertaining - addresses, not 'sermons' though there was much in them to inspire us. It was altogether a very happy occasion. |
A gathering of past and present primary school staff from Our Lady & St Edward's With many thanks to those members of St Cuthbert's in charge of the catering, who had welcomed such a large contingent from Preston in addition to a considerable number of their own parishioners.

| Quite a reunion as well as a celebration - an evening to remember! | ||
