OurBishop was born and brought up in Ireland but had been in the London area since he began his seminary training in 1959. He has had wide experience of parish life in Westminster Diocese and has been Rector of Allen Hall, the diocesan Seminary, and Administrator of Westminster Cathedral. Work with the homeless, drug addicts and disadvantaged people in inner London was one of his priorities.
He was ordained Bishop in 1993 and was appointed to the west London area of Westminster Diocese. Besides working in that culturally mixed area, Bishop Patrick became well known at a national level for his work with refugees and asylum seekers.
His installation in Lancaster Cathedral took place on Wednesday 4 July 2001. Bishop Patrick asked for the prayers of everyone in the Diocese as he took on this new task.
